Randy and his talented crew brought our custom home in “on budget and on time.” The whole building experience was so enjoyable, made that way by his caring, tireless, and flexible manner. His team’s craftsmanship is exceptional, and his finished products are the best we have seen anywhere.

When Randy Hughes told me that 10,000 was the average number of decisions a home-builder must make, I almost passed out. I’m not a shopper nor a decorator. I didn’t have a vision of a dream kitchen because I do not dream of kitchens. How on earth would I navigate this project without becoming completely overwhelmed or making disastrous decisions?

My husband Paul and I quickly came to the understanding that not only is Randy an outstanding builder and a man of great integrity, he is also a calm and patient guide through the home building process. In all honesty, I can say that once I jumped off the cliff, I loved building our home in Creston. We had a blast. Randy kept us informed of “next steps”, so that we could plan ahead and never feel rushed about making decisions. He accompanied us to the vendors he recommended, always taking a back seat to the sometimes spicy marital conversations that inevitably prove the soundtrack for building a home. That said, if he saw us – or more likely me – going off track, he would skillfully draw our attention to “consider this” or “think about that” when it came to certain decisions. In looking at our beautiful finished home, I can only say that his insights are spot-on.

There is much more to say about Randy and Blue Ridge Mountain Homes. Here’s my laundry list:

  • Randy is an effective and timely communicator, on everything from time lines to costs to unforeseen issues – yes, they will arise. Communication is critical.
  • I cannot imagine building a home if I did not have 1000% trust in our builder. We weighed in at 1001%.
  • Randy has talented and gentlemanly subs. Nice guys all.
  • He works very well with our community’s ARC committee. This is really important, and he did a terrific job with that.
  • He is a creative thinker. When pondering how to keep our pugs confined to one side of the house, he suggested that we wire the Invisible Fence to the underside of a love seat. Et voila.

On a final note, I noticed right up front that Randy’s clients seemed to be his friends, long after the dust was settled and the Porta Potty was wheeled away. He and his lovely wife, Lauria, are frequent guests at Creston events and dinner parties. In fact, the Hughes’ were among our very first guests when we were ready to entertain…..in my new dream kitchen!

If you are considering Randy and Blue Ridge Mountain Homes, we invite your questions. Randy will tell you how to find us. And please come see our beautiful home. He’s got the keys.

I think how lucky Gerry and I are to have found two individuals (Tom Lawton and Randy Hughes) who excel at their art. Thanks to both of you for designing and building us such a beautiful home.

I can only echo Bev’s comments and, more importantly, her feeling!  This has been a journey for all of us and the “yellow brick road” has led to a true “Emerald City”.  We truly “feel” this home, not just live there.  Bravo team!

I knew Randy was our builder the first time we met. I liked his passion for building and no pressure to make a decision. That first impression turned out to be correct. Randy was always on top of the job and always a quick phone call away. During construction we lived 700 miles away and we trusted Randy with many of the decisions. Every month Randy would provide me a detailed breakdown of the cost for the month along with an updated budget. During the construction phase Randy made suggestions to improve the quality and the look of the home. The best part of all is our home turned out fantastic, and we are now friends with Randy and his wife.

Impeccable quality, intense focus, great communication, superb scheduling, and most important high moral integrity.  These are just a few of the attributes that best describe Randy Hughes and the people he surrounds himself with.  As an absentee owner, placing trust in someone 600 miles away who you have only met a few times is a leap of faith to be sure.  However, from the day we started working together we realized Randy was indeed the correct choice for our project. Randy has a passion for his projects and exhibits that passion in everything he does.  Whenever you arrive at the jobsite there is no question who is running the project — he is there every day!  After working closely with Randy I consider him to be a good friend, and I would absolutely build with him again.

I bought a small house in Black Mountain that needed to be refurbished. I met Randy Hughes who agreed to do the project. GREAT RESULTS! Randy’s knowledge, talent and integrity made this sad little home come alive. I knew immediately that I wanted Randy to build my new custom home. This project was even better. We worked closely together and I could not have been more pleased with the results. Every detail was taken care of with a great sense of pride and always a sense of humor. Thank you Randy, for a beautiful home and a job well done! P.S. When can we build another one?

I am happy to recommend Randy Hughes of Blue Ridge Mountain Homes to build your home. I can describe Randy in two words, a “practical perfectionist.” Randy pays close attention to all details of construction and the quality of his workmanship is excellent. We are very discriminating and demanding people. We have built two homes and remodeled a new condominium prior to building our mountain home. Randy has exceeded our expectations. Randy goes above and beyond his duties as a general contractor by offering practical advice in design and aesthetics. He was also there to assist us during our move in and after our house was completed. He cares about what he does and has become a great friend.

Selecting a builder is a difficult decision, and we are very happy with the decision we made to have Randy Hughes build our home. Randy is fully committed to making sure the homeowners get what they want in their house, and that it is done right. That commitment continues after the house is completed. He works well with everyone involved, and if a problem did arise, he dealt with it in a way that made it easy for us. He was also very committed to helping us keep our costs under control. I can honestly say that whatever cost overruns we had were the result of our own decisions. Randy did everything he said he would do within the budget and on schedule. We have been in our house for almost a year now, and we love it. We really appreciate the dedication, integrity, and especially the flexibility that Randy demonstrated. The process was actually fun (most of the time) and the end result was spectacular.

I met Randy through our Real Estate agent when we bought our home 4 years ago. Through a few phone conversations, I immediately trusted him to work on the house while we were still in L.A. to do a variety of projects. As a designer, I am very particular to detail and Randy gets it. We were so pleased that we had Randy do the build out of our basement. We then worked with Randy to build Spatheology, Suraj Salon, and then The Spa, Biltmore. Randy understands this level of detail and sophisticated finish work and he allows me some creative “modifications” to make improvements to the project as needed. I will be using Randy to build a custom home for myself in the near future, I trust him and he is my friend.

During the rebuild of the Spa at the Inn on Biltmore Estate we had the pleasure of working with Randy and his team. Randy’s dedication from the onset through to the completion of the project was evident in all areas, even with his subcontractors. He was great at communicating with us and flexible with our needs, which are two assets that are hard to find.
